Much Ado About Meditation……..
Everybody seems to be meditating these days! Schools and colleges have included it in their curriculum, corporate offices arrange workshops to” Teach” their employees meditation to bring about improvement in the work proficiency. Housewives are seen running to the meditation classes at

11’Oclock. Meditation seems to have become a fad, a fashion statement; anyone worth a celebrity status seems to be” highly meditative” and go gaga about its benefits. All kinds of religious or life coaching organisation vouch for the efficacy of the techniques TAUGHT by them.
Meditation has become a widely nay a loosely used term with varied definitions and equally varied techniques. A panacea for all problems! These techniques include sitting in some complicated yogic posture, keeping eyes closed, watching one’s breath, being a witness, chanting a mantra, making the mind thoughtless(a stupendous task indeed!) No doubt meditation is truly a technique to merge the ”i” with the” I” and the benefits are tremendous, to all the people who manage to DO it. But most of the time we struggle to “DO” it. Is it so complicated? A serious matter? Indeed not. Because meditation cannot be taught, it is a state of being.
Meditation simply means being fully engrossed in the act or thought in hand to the total exclusion of anything else. What happens when we are singing our favourite song, dancing in ecstasy to our favourite tune ,painter painting a master piece, a mother lovingly cooking a meal for her children, a student studying hard for his exams, reading one’s favourite book…… awe struck by the scenic beauty……the list can be unending. The common factor in all these being a 100./.involvement in the act .Isn’t this meditation? And the interesting thing is that we need not even learn any technique, no rules to be followed, no preparation to be made….just an ARDENT ASPIRATION TO BLEND IN… the activity.
So let us make it simple…. Dance as if the whole universe dances with you, sing as if the whole nature is singing with you……perform the work in hand as if nothing else matters at that moment ,getting fully involved in it .Taking a cue from nature …. The whole creation seems to be in meditation. Birds singing, bees humming, sun shining in its glory, moon showering its cool rays rivers flowing, trees silently listening to the breeze and sometimes swaying with it. Buds bursting into flowers… All seem to be doing what has been assigned to them in totality. Hence if we are giving our 100. /. to whatever we are doing at any point of time we are in MEDITATION. It is this simple and simply joyful!
It is a food for thought that instead of laying so much emphasis on the techniques, if everyone is encouraged to enjoy the task in hand and simply learn to BE with whatever they are doing ,then we will always be meditating and the results will be immense.
Kuch na kaho,Kuch bhi na kaho.
Kya Kahna hai,Kya sunana hai,
Samay ka yeh pal, tham sa gaya hai,
Aur is pal main koi nahi hai,
Bus ek main hoon, bus ek tum ho……..
I feel this beautiful Bollywood melody sums up what meditation is!
Forever in Gratitude to Her Divine Grace!
